#23 End or beginning

I enjoyed participating in the Learning 2.0 program although sometimes I had hard time. This program keeps us on track to learn new stuff out there. Otherwise I never would have done all the exploring on my own. The Web 2.0 tools that I will probably use again are blogs, wikis, Flickr, YouTube, online word processing/spreadsheets/calendars. It's nice to get permission to use work time to learn fun things. I'd do it again. I'd take web 2.1 next summer.

#22 Face to Face Space: Social Networking Communities

I have to see 'My space" and "Face book' are good ways to find info about your friends or whoevery you want to find. Many parents use it to check on their childrens' friends or roommates. The bad side is: you have to give up your personal info to get other people's info. Also it takes lots of time to update your page.

#21 Podcasts, shmodcasts!

Podcasts are useful, sometimes are convinient. For example: you can start a audio book from podcast at your kid's bedtime, so it can free you to do something else. Another example is: at office break time you can start a yoga or meditation session to relax yourself so you can be recharged and energitic to finish rest of your day.

#20 YouTube

I selected 'Li Yundi playing "La Campanella"'video and placed it inside my blog. I like this video because I like classic music. Li Yundi is one of the finest pianists in the world. He plays piano beautifully. I think YouTube can be used as an educational tool. For example: If I play piano I can record the piece I am working on and put it on YouTube. Then I search for the title of the piece, it will come up all kinds piano players who is playing this same piece. So I can listen and watch their playing and learn from them.

#19 Discovering web 2.0 awards

It was amazing to found out that there are so many web 2.0 tools out there for us to use. I checked the winner list and choose the real estate "Zillow". I found it out if you input an address it will come up the value of the house you inputted and the value of the neighbour houses. It is good information if you want to buy or sell a house in that area or neighborhood. But too bad Athens is not listed.

I also checked category Travel with "Farecast". It comes up with cheapest tickets for you to choose. This way just with one search I can find out the prices with different airlines and make comparison.

I didn't have time to explore more from the winning list. I am sure there are many great tools that can be use for library setting.

#18 Web-based apps

I explored "Google docs & spreadsheets" and created my own account. Then I created one doc and one spreadsheet. I invited collaborator and viewer to share my docs. I think Google.docs & spreadsheets is very useful tool for several people discuss and share their thoughts on same topic or same article.

# 17 Playing Around with Wikis

I added my favorite YouTube link and my favorite movie link to the OULibrariesLearn Wiki page. I think it's fun to edit other people's wiki page. This way I can share my favorites with others and find other's favorites. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to wait and retry again when other people was editing the page.

#16 So what's in a wiki?

I have never used wiki before. After exploring the resources of wiki I think it has good side and bad side too. The good part of wiki is: wiki is a good communication tool for people to contribute their thoughts or ideas on a group project or a discussing topic. The bad part is: you can not really trust the content in the wiki since any body can go in to change anything and not take the responsible for that.

# 15 Library 2.0

I just started to learn "Library 2.0" through "learning 2.0". Library 2.0 does have lots of new features and new technologies that the libraries can use to better serve our users. It can be also used for my personal needs.

# 14 Technorati

In Technorati, different way of searching comes out different results. At popular gage, top video, I found "Wii fit Parody". It combines exercise and fun together. I think it's the new toy I am going to get for me.

#13 Tagging and bookmarking in Deli.iciou.us

I created my own account in Del.icio.us and tagged for recipes. I like the idea of putting my favorite bookmarks in Del.icio.us. So I can trace my favorite pages wherever I am. Tagging is a great feature. I can look up stuff by tag easily. There are many more features in Del.icio.us. I'll take time to explore them later.

# 12 Rollyo

I try to search Rollyo. It took long long time to search and the result is not what I really want. Some links are unclickable.

#11 Librarything

Librarything as a personal library it's a good organizer. But not all the books I have can be added to my librarything, especially the foreign language books.

# 9 Newsfeeds

I explored some of the search tools and found Topix.net is the easiest one for me to find local news that I am interested at. I also found that it's hard to locate Chinese newsfeeds in those search tools.

# 8 RSS

After creating my Blogline account and subscribe several newsfeeds to my reader I can see the benefits of RSS and newsfeeds. Using RSS can save me a lot of time. I just need to go to one place and see all the news I am interested at. As I get more familiar with RSS I’ll use this technology in my work and personal life.

# 3 Create a Blog

I think the easiest lifelong learners' habit for me is # 7 ½ “Play”. I like to play, to try new things, to get different experiences. The hardiest habit for me is #6 “Use technology to your advantage". I wish I could do all kinds stuff using new technology. But I haven’t had chance or time to learn the new technology yet. Now the library offers the opportunity and time for me to learning these cool things. I should take the advantage and have fun.
